Mark and I met through a mutual friend in the first year of optometry school. Our mutual friend lived 20 minutes away off campus, so we found ourselves driving to his apartment together on a regular basis. One day, our books were stolen out of our friend's car. Mark and I needed to buy replacement calculators - so our first “date” was going to buy those calculators at the Willow Grove Mall. After that date, we were together all the time. Mark and I worked as teaching assistants in lab together; we did some of our externship rotations together; and we got engaged during our primary care residency at The Eye Institute that we did together. We married a year after our residency ended. We have two wonderful children - the oldest one is currently an optometry student at Salus [Pennsylvania College of Optometry]. And, yes, we still have those calculators.
