Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
During the weekend of the Centennial Gala Celebration, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.
Dr. Emanuel C. Nurock had a long and illustrious career in optometry and community affairs. He served on the New Jersey State Board of Examiners for many years. He successfully promoted the expansion and improvement of optometry for the benefit of the public by progressively upgrading the professional qualifications in New Jersey, working with Dr. Martin R. Snook to establish the “Rules of Practice.” This code was ultimately adopted by the American Optometric Association (AOA), nationally. Dr. Nurock was one of two Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) graduates who has received the AOA’s Apollo Award, the highest honor bestowed by the organization. He was also named PCO Alumnus of the Year in 1972.
