In honor of Father’s Day, check out these photos and information from the program about the dedication ceremony of Albert and Lawrence Fitch Hall held on Monday, July 27, 1981.
“Rarely have two individuals from the same family meant so much to any institution. “Dr. Albert” was a pioneer in the truest sense of the word. Almost single-handedly, he raised optometry to new professional standards he established at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. His belief that a proper College of Optometry 'must compete with any of the colleges of the other health professions, such as Medicine and Dentistry, and be on a par with the best of them,' which was the hallmark of his outstanding leadership to the profession and to the College.
Lawrence Fitch raised the level of activity and influence of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry to even greater heights. During his twelve years as president, enrollment at the College greatly increased in addition to the development of facilities."
At that time, it was quite fitting that the achievements and leadership of these two individuals were recognized by the designation of the academic building known as Albert and Lawrence Fitch Hall.
