Medal Monday: Frederick W. Sinn, OD ’33

President’s Medal Recipients

Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University.  Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.

During the weekend of the Centennial Gala Celebration, additional alumni, faculty, and friends were honored.

Frederick W. Sinn, OD ’33, FAAO,
(1912-1961)

a-fred-sinn-pic1Dr. Sinn joined the faculty in 1933 and served until his death in 1961. He endeared himself to students and faculty alike by his keenness of intellect, genial disposition, friendliness and genuine interest in his students and his subject. He served as professor of Physical and Geometrical Optics. In the 1930s and 1950s, Dr. Sinn participated as a lecturer in the Extra-Mural and Practitioners Educational and Clinical Conference programs. He served as president of the Philadelphia County Optometric Society and vice-president of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) and was a member of the Committee on Standards of the American Optometric Association (AOA). Dr. Sinn was author of many articles on mathematical optics and the widely-known textbook, Manual of Physical and Geometrical Optics.
