President’s Medal Recipients
Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
During the weekend of the Centennial Gala Celebration, additional alumni, faculty, and friends were honored.
Martin R. Snook, OD ’36, FAAO
(1913-1970)
Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Snook was an indefatigable worker for his profession. In 1946, he formulated the New Jersey Optometric Association’s Rules of Practice, which were subsequently adopted by the American Optometric Association. This document helped change the mode of early practice and raise the standards of optometric practice to today’s high levels of professionalism. He served as president of the New Jersey Optometric Association and was a member of the New Jersey State Board of Optometrical Examiners and the International Association of Boards of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Snook served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Better Vision Institute. In 1969, he received the Albert Fitch Alumnus of the Year Award.
